This insulation layer is great. I love to put them on at camp on a cold night. I can now use my 50 deg. sleeping bag and bivy and stay warm into the 30's. These pants are comfortable and at 8 oz.( or so at ex. lar.) they are very light and compact well. They are an inner pant so they are not very durable but I haven't ripped them and I have sat on rocks and sticks at camp.In conclusion I really like them and they will have a full time space in my kit in the colder seasons.

Purchased in 2005, weight is 6 oz.

As an experiment, I recently used them with my Montbell UL Down Inner Jacket instead of my sleeping bag for some overnights on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Nighttime lows were in the low-40s and I couldn't have been more comfortable.

I now plan on using them to boost the rating of my 15F bag for winter backpacking.

The fabric is delicate, but a pair of rain pants over them will protect them just fine.

On a side note, you won't win any fashion awards.

Great insulating layer. Mine, in large, weighs 6.85 oz. I took these pants down to 18 degrees F with 200g wool leggings and rain pants over top in a 32 degrees down bag and stayed fairly warm (not toasty warm).
Perfect for around camp, sleeping and packing up in the morning.

Long and trim! ! ! Tall guys rejoice! on 03/02/2012 11:36:41 MST Report Post Print

As mentioned these are a nice and light pair of warm pants.

Sorry for the exclamation marks but I have never found stock pants like this!

The great news with these is that they fit very slim for a down pant.

I am 6'5"/195cm tall and can almost never find pants long enough. When I do they are super baggy.

I bought a L to keep them a bit trimmer and was extremely surprised to find they are actually long enough!

I normally wear 32(wst)/36(insm) pants and these size L were just tight enough to stay up on their own and they are entirely long enough.
