Podcast: Lake Tahoe Open Water Swim - Around the Lake in Seven Days in Ultralight Style
Justin Lichter (trail name Trauma) is known for his thru-hiking accomplishments - over 10,000 miles last year after already completing the triple crown. Here he takes on long distance swimming in preparation for future multi-mode adventures.
The water is very cold in spots but Justin didn't wear a wetsuit. The lake is a recreational haven for boats but Justin didn't wear a brightly colored swim cap. It rained and thundered but Justin didn't bring a tarp. Wearing just shorts and a thin wool top and towing a dry sack with food, water and a few warm items, Justin Lichter swam 70 miles around the circumference of Lake Tahoe without support. Is he nuts? Maybe. Ask him how he got his trail name.

Sailboat maneuverability
on 10/24/2007 17:56:11 MDT
Having raced and cruised for 49 years in sailboats from 8 feet to 30 feet. I can say for a fact that a sail boat is much more maneuverable than any motor boat. If a competent skipper has good visibility and the water is reasonably flat (no waves) it is very possible to pass within inches of an object in the water. When in the water it's always important to be sure any boaters see you.

Justin just had a few photos. Kind of hard to get pics when you're swimming solo!

Blatant advertising? Me thinks so.
Edited: yeah, me too. Deleted. Thanks.
