Although there are a lot of waterproof insulated boots on the market, it is hard to find a model that is truly lightweight. The Keen Growler is one of the lightest available, has a waterproof/breathable liner, 200-gram insulation, and weight of 19.6 ounces/boot (men’s 9).
The original Growler had an eVENT membrane to make it waterproof and Primaloft insulation, but the current model uses proprietary KeenDry waterproof/breathable technology and KeenWarm insulation. The Growler is claimed to be warm down to -20 F, which may be a bit optimistic. Sizes: Men’s 7-14, women’s 5-11. MSRP: $124.99.
We chose the Grower because it uses mostly synthetic materials to minimize weight, its tread provides excellent traction, and its roomy interior provides ample room to wear thick socks.

Wouldn't the Marmot Helium be a better choice at 7 oz less? Or the Helium EQ and save the weight of a bivy sack?

Hi Richard-
The Marmot Helium or Helium EQ certainly would have made a fine choice for Bob's trip. As we plan for Bob to have a 4-season tent, the EQ version shouldn't be needed. As for the standard helium, Marmot apparently didn't have one on display at their booth for photos, so it didn't fit our only-gear-found-at-OR criteria.

OK, I'll bite. Even though I'm a summer camper I can manage to use my existing clothing and go for a winter camp trip with Bob. New sleeping bag, Pack, Probe,(I'll borrow a PIEPS from a friend!), plus that cool hat. The cost should be under $750..lets go!

My wife and I have these and am very happy with them. They offer a lot of performance for their weight in full-on winter conditions with an abundance of snow!

It looks like it is available now. They say they will ship from the UK, but it is pricy.
available from canada: $20 + $5

I'm going to show this to my wife. She's tried some similar products, but had a backup problem because of the small spout.
