* OK, seriously. Caffeine is a drug. It's not as bad as a lot of "experts" say, but it can be addictive, and shouldn't be consumed in excess. Generally, you can replace two pieces of Jolt Gum for every cup of coffee in your daily diet and feel no ill effects. Caffeine withdrawals can be brutal: CHEW RESPONSIBLY.
Dosage guidelines for hiking & backpacking: Generally, coffee drinkers can easily tolerate one package (12 pieces) spread over a period of two days (2 pcs in the morning, 2 pcs at noon, 2 pcs in the late afternoon/evening) of mountain hiking. Adventure racers and mountaineers have been known to gobble two packs a day, but we don't recommend that unless your tolerance for caffeine is proven. Non-coffee drinkers will want to start out at a dose no higher than 2 pcs twice a day (morning and afternoon) until their tolerance for caffeine is proven.
Jolt Gum offers a better performance to weight ratio than virtually any dry caffeine source. Our experience suggests that chocolate-covered espresso beans don't hold a candle to Jolt's performance-to-weight ratio.
