We have come to call a pyramid-type shelter a "Mid", and the name has stuck. The main advantages of a Mid are a large protected area for the weight and loads of headroom; in addition they are claimed to have good ventilation and wind stability. The disadvantage is basically the same as any other single wall shelter - condensation. Most Mids are floorless, but some manufacturers offer a netting insert with a floor, effectively creating a lightweight double-wall shelter.
