GoLite is expanding their line of lightweight shelters across the board, introducing models that fill in much needed gaps in their existing product line. We had the opportunity to test and perform a first looks review of the new shelters out prior to Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2004.

GoLite Hut Floorless Shelter

The most exciting new shelter is targeted squarely at the ultralight minimalist wanting a full-coverage, single-wall, floorless shelter. The resulting Hut 1 (solo) and Hut 2 (2-person) shelters weigh 15 and 18 oz, respectively, and offer corresponding floor coverage areas of 39 and 56 ft2.

Simple set up requires two poles (trekking poles work great), no guylines, and six stakes. Add two short guylines, two more stakes, and pull it as tight as possible, and the GoLite Hut, with its robust 1.76-oz/yd2 silicone/polyurethane nylon fabric becomes one of the most wind-stable floorless shelters available.

The main competition for the GoLite Hut will be the Integral Designs Silshelter (14 oz) and the Gossamer Gear Spinnshelter (8.5 oz). We expect that the Hut will be the most weather-worthy of the three and best suited for the stormiest, windiest conditions. It includes a zippered vestibule door and storm flap, and offers a variety of flexible pitching options to increase headroom and floor level ventilation.

GoLite Eisenhower Tunnel Single Wall Tent

The “Ike” tent is the tougher cousin of the GoLite Den, adding a large front vestibule and ventilating full-length sides in a two-man, 36 ft2 configuration that weighs 3 lb 10 oz.

The Ike addresses the limitations of the Den in very stormy weather with the addition of a vestibule and the ability to fully protect you while still maintaining ventilation.

GoLite Trig 1

Trig 2 fans looking wanting a smaller version for solo use will be pleased with the new Trig 1. Offering 24 ft2 of space at a weight of 2 lb 3 oz, the Trig 1 requires two poles to pitch, offers a floor and full netted or fabric enclosure from the elements, and some ventilation via retractable windows along the sides.
