The G6 Whisper Ultralight Backpack was designed in response to Ryan Jordan's desire for a freakishly light, subcompact, overnight pack. The G6 Whisper Ultralight Backpack is a cornerstone of Ryan's Super-UltraLight Backpacking (overnight backpacking with less than five pounds of gear) strategy.

The G6 Whisper, at only 3.7 ounces (99 g), is the lightest commercially-available rucksack with enough volume for overnight backpacking by the accomplished ultralight backpacker. With more than 1800 cubic inches (30L) of main packbag capacity, an expandable rear pocket, and a short extension collar, the G6 Whisper Ultralight Backpack provides enough volume for virtually any serious ultralighter out for two or three days, and enough volume for the extraordinarily disciplined ultralight hiker with a very low equipment kit volume to spend several days to a week in the backcountry.

Applications

The G6 Whisper is intended for the following primary applications:

• Day Pack. At less than four ounces, the G6 Whisper can be stowed in your backpack (use it as a sleeping bag stuff sack!) for base-camp style backpacking.
• Overnight Pack. With a volume of about 33+L (2000+ ci), the G6 Whisper offers enough space for most ultralight hikers for an overnight or a weekend, provided that you keep the weight less than fifteen pounds, and use gear that is compact: solo tarp shelter, summer weight down sleeping bag, alcohol stove with a small pot, etc.
• Ultralight Expedition Backpack. Not for the faint of heart, but possible. If you have your ultralight kit dialed down to minimize both weight and volume, the G6 Whisper can be used for extended backpacking. Ryan Jordan has used the G6 Whisper on backpacking trips in the Northern Rockies extending to six days and 150 miles.

Extending the Durability of Your G6

Apply SilNet to all seams, especially exposed ones, including bar tacks, to protect them from abrasion and increase seam strength. Not much is needed, you can use fingers to rub slight amounts into the seams.
