You MUST do the JMT...no discussion or debate about that! It is nothing short of spectacular and as awe inspiring as any trail has to offer on any continent. I am sure your daughter would make a great addition and enjoy it/treasure it for years after your walk. Yes, please do keep me in the loop as your plan and prepare for the trip. I am a self-proclaimed gear head like many on BPL and have learned by "trail and error." A lot of planning/gear is related to the prevailing conditions in any given year. To give you an example, a couple years ago I had 10' snowdrifts and sun cups for about 30% of the trail and this year we never even set foot in snow.
As you know, the Sierra are one of the driest ranges in the lower 48 and the diversity it offers is breath taking. Prepare for a lot of up and down, up and down, up and down....but it's worth the effort.
I think you will love our resupply plan as it allows you to travel extremely light and fast or slow down for loooooong stops and enjoy the trail and still put in some miles comfortably. As far as leaving the trail, you can
if fact use MTR as an exit and go to Lake Florence where you can thumb, pick up a dropped off car, or arange a pick up. Down the trail there are also mountain passes that have exit points if she wanted to continue a bit
more- Bishop Pass to name one among many. However, being on the right side of the mountain range saves a bunch of time if indeed you are headed to Fresno(i.e. Florence is a better call). Keep in touch, I would love to help in
any way I can. Who knows, we might do it again next year!
