Only Thing I Care About on 08/08/2007 16:21:09 MDT Print View

All I care about is my Caldera Kitchen (bought from AGG) with cozy and cone fits like a glove! I just got everything together plus the Esbit option and it all works perfectly.

I have the pot with handles and kind of felt like I was taking a chance getting it all to fit... but it's perfect. I love this little pot!

I put together my whole kitchen by adding a 10x11 microfiber towel,a mini dropper bottle for soap,a BPL long spoon, then I added a FBC cozy and weighed it. 10.2 ounces for everything but fuel and soap. Fuel and soap container weight is included.

I feel like this would be hard to top given the performance of a Caldera Cone. Whatever the dimensions are, looks like you'll get the right cone if you say "yep handles" or "nope SUL").

Sam, I'm confused. Are you saying you use the Caldera setup with the Firelite 500 pot?

Jason, yes 550 Calderas here on 08/08/2007 20:02:55 MDT Print View

I agree with Sams comments on the Calderas, I use them with my Snow Peak pot and cup, but they make them for the 550 and 550SUL.
I would not go back to the 'jenga stack' of homemade components again. Calderas are essentially the jetboil of the alcohol domain.

Cone is here

Esbit kit is here

Fits my UL550 like a glove. I love this setup.

Like I said, I took a chance that it actually fit the 550 and it does. Obviously this adds to the confusion. Hope it works out for everyone else too.

Answers, finally! on 08/09/2007 14:01:44 MDT Print View

Hey all- we appreciate your concern, and the dust-up in the warehouse yesterday was pretty entertaining. Apparently, the manufacturer switched the specs on the latest order to arrive (FireLite 550s), and we did not catch it. They are phasing out the original pots (FireLite 500s). Unfortunately, our new and old stock got mixed together, creating this mass of confusion.

We're putting our stock of the 500s back on the site. The 550s will be up in the next day or two as a completely different product. Since the 500s are a closeout, here is a coupon you can use for 30% off both pots, whether handled or handle-less: firelite500

If you got a 550, but wanted a 500, please create an RMA and return the 550, then order a 500. If you got a 500, but wanted a 550, please do the same.

The Caldera Cones we have in the warehouse (which will be available for purchase next week) fit the 500 pots. We will have new Cones made for the 550s, and I do not have an ETA for those at this time.

We are sorry for tizzy - it really threw us for a loop too, and we had to open and check every single pot in inventory before I had any news for you. I'll monitor this forum for questions, but any RMA questions need to be asked in the support issue interface, please.

Thanks for being so diligent on checking up on us!
Addie

Thanks for the clarification!

I know the new 550's come with lids that fit. Just so everyone knows, do the old 500's have lids that fit properly now as well?

Lucky you, Addie, you now have four different sets of pots/specs/webpages/orders to track! :)

Lids on 08/09/2007 14:25:27 MDT Print View

Yes, lids are all correct. Anyone getting an ill fitting lid is the anomaly, not the rule, since we replaced them all (and are in the process of replacing all from previous orders). Thanks for helping me clarify!

Thank you for clarifying all of this. I also appreciate the coupon....which I of course just took advantage of!

Thanks again!

Adding More Confusion on 08/09/2007 16:40:13 MDT Print View

The current Caldera Cone sold at AGG states that it fits the 500. It fits my pot perfectly. My pot is the 550 (printed on the side) and measures correctly for a 550.

I'm betting FL was low bidder on this project!

Confused yet?

New vs. Old on 08/09/2007 17:35:18 MDT Print View

Has anyone seen both the old version and the new version? I'm undecided as to whether I should keep the "old" version I have or return it and get the "new" one. Pros of getting the new one include lighter weight and more volume. The con is apparently reduced durability (according to Ben). Any insights would be appreciated.

Firelite pot dimensions? on 08/10/2007 11:28:48 MDT Print View

I have 2 Firelite pots bought 2 months apart.

The first pot was ordered on 7-3-07:

It is marked on the side of the pot as a Firelite 550?

Dimensions are: 3.76 avg. O.D. x 3.25 H

The 2nd pot was ordered on 8-03-07:

Dimensions are: 3.72 avg.O.D. X 2.8 H (Current BPL specs. are accurate.)

Filled with 16oz of water, the waterlines are approx. btwn 3/8"-5/8"" below the rim/top of the pot

Pots were measured with a Mitutoyo 8" digital caliper.

Yeah, I thought this was possibly the case? on 08/10/2007 11:41:32 MDT Print View

Thanks Addie, just wanted to comment that your current specs are correct for the 500 pot.

I assume the 550 is discontinued? Not a real big difference btwn. the 2 pots

The BPL specs list the dimensions of the 500 as 3.75 h and 2.75 diameter. The reverse of what Michael posted. Which is correct?

Thanks,

My mistake, their listed dims. are backwards. on 08/10/2007 14:31:07 MDT Print View

My specs are correct at 2.80 H x 3.72 0.D. So, I believe BPL just has the dia. and height listed backwards?

Firelite pot metric dimensions? on 08/11/2007 04:28:58 MDT Print View

I just received my SUL-Firelite 500 pot (550 on pot) which was brought back from the US by an American friend.

The lid fitted ok, the top of the pot was a little bit out of round but a bit of squeezing sorted that out, but over all my first impressions are good. I can’t wait to try it.

This is for the metric forum readers.

The pot and lid weighed in on my scales at 53.2 g
The pot alone weighed 40.2 g
The lid weighed in at 13.0 g

The diameter inside at top (ID) measured 95 mm
Base diameter outside (OD) measured 94.6 mm

Height with lid 80 mm
Height without lid 79.3 mm

Tony

Hey all - the FireLite 500s are now on close out, and the FireLite 550s are up and running. The coupon mentioned above no longer applies, as they are now under the umbrella of the closeout coupon. Thanks!

Hey Addie,
On the phone this morning I bet you that I'd probably know before you did when the 550s were online because I check the gear shop every 5 min. but you beat me to it! ;) I owe you a Coke! Anyway, I ordered mine as soon as I saw it was online. Thanks again for your help. I can't wait to see the 500 and 550 side by side. -Jason
