I agree with others, there is no right answer for shoes - they are very much a personal preference. I wear brooks for running - but I am just a casual runner for fitness - 5 mile max. They did not work for longer use. I have an odd shaped foot, narrow heel, flatter arch, and wide forefoot. The brooks fit fine in the heel had a decent arch support, and were narrow in the forefoot. I tried New balance, and they were the opposite, although I prefer them for daily wearing, if I get an EE wide, the heel slips.
I am currently trying addidas AX1. They were 75% off after christmas when a local outdoor store was clearing out old inventory. Very good ventilation, decent arch support, narrow heel, and a little more roomy in the forefoot - although I had to go a 1.5 sizes up from my daily shoes. I only have about 40 trail miles, and so far they seem fine.
I still have yet to try Innov8, and they are next on my list to try.
