I'm about to break down and just buy a new Bearikade. Its practically like having money in a savings account when you consider the used resale value.

The expedition new costs ~$345 shipped and taxes
the skyscape X costs $575.50 shipped
the platypus filter costs $120+shipping/tax, with none of the extras

It's a deal for someone who was looking at buying them and wanting to save some cash.
Feel free to make offers.

That sir, is true- that's with none of the extras.
That option is available as well, if you only want the filter

PM works wonders.... on 03/18/2014 12:11:40 MDT Print View

If you're not appreciative of someone else's prices, either move along or if motivated to really question them, I think etiquette/tact would dictate doing it in a private forum instead of their own thread. Geez...

Price Critiquing. on 03/18/2014 12:28:48 MDT Print View

This has been brought up before. it's poison on the swap forum.

Everyone reserves the right to sell whatever they want for whatever price they want. I can put up a jacket for $5 more than the retail cost. If someone is willing to pay, that's their business. If someone buys something from one member and resells it later for profit, that's their business too.

You should feel free to post info in a seller's thread if it's relevant, but statements like "That price for used gear?" are unnecessary. The market will determine the fairness of the price. No need for anyone to get whiney.....

At the risk of a thread drift - I do think it is proper to post comments about prices on this forum. Lets leave price secrecy to hedge funds or synthetic derivatives. Nothing beats sunshine and transparency for a healthy market place. I see nothing wrong with questioning prices, and nothing wrong with the sellers defending their prices. Seems like this is exactly what should happen in a free market place.

"The market will determine the fairness of the price." It's many years since I studied economic theory, but IIRC, markets only work correctly if people are fully informed. Following that, the people price-critiquing are helping the market to "correctly" decide the fair price.
Though, personally, I think a pm first would be a bit more respectful.

From the manufacturers website:
Most Bearikade food canisters have been sold in North America, but they have also been shipped to: Japan, France, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom...

I've lived in the UK all my life. Travelled through France Belgium and German too.

Ain't seen a bear yet. :-)

Good luck with your sales. Don't mind the bargain hunters, they're just hagglin'.

Yeah but the wild boar in Germany are about as bad.
