Opinions of sierra design Drizone jacket? on 07/19/2007 18:39:03 MDT Print View

Can anyone comment on:
Sierra Designs Elevation Jacket
10 Oz "DriZone" fabric

It looks like the fabric is no longer mentioned on their web site, but in searches it claims roughly Event type breathability.

Has anyone used drizone or this jacket in particular?

No direct experience whatsoever, and tent experience is obviously not the same as jacket experience, but I have used the SD Solomente tent with Drizone waterproof/breathable fabric -- and experienced quite a lot of condensation even in the not-all-that-humid Colorado Rockies (Weminuche)! I was not all that impressed.

SD's breathability claims for the Drizone is nothing short of sensational. However, in addition to "maximum breathability at optimum conditions" -- one also has to look at how 'best performance' degrades when conditions are not the most favorable. Comparing eVENT with Goretex, for example, the latter's performance degrades steeply with changing temps and humidity. I suspect Drizone suffers the same outcome -- if not worse.
