Maybe being to nosey but just curious if the guys that run the cottage gear companies like zpacks, enlightened equipment, warbonnet, etc have other jobs or are these their full time gigs? Just curious...have products from all of them by the way and love them.

You will probably get the best answer if you contact them. Every cottage gear company has a contact page. This is especially true of you have purchased stuff from them.

Zpacks used to have a photo on its web site showing its shop with all of the sewing operators at work. At the time, it was five or six people total. In many cases, the cottage companies are simply one-person companies, but then there are independent sewing contractors that each work in their own homes and supply the finished gear to the manager.

I suspect that the answer is: they are all different.

Most making the gear will be full timers. Some sites that only sell some gear may have another job. My two sense.

Dave here at MilesGear has a full-time day job.
My plan was to make ONE bivy for myself ;) Be careful what you start!

I have a few sewing for me now, but I still do all the design, cutting, and seam sealing.
