I was able to get my hands on a used SMD Feather in large but unfortunately it's a tad too small for me. It shows some use but still has lots of life left. $80 shipped.

I'll try to post pics later. Otherwise PM me for pics.

Hi Mark,

does this one have a hip belt with it? Does "a bit small" mean in length or capacity?

Thanks

Rog

Thanks Roger. No there is no hip belt with this pack. By small I mean too small for my very broad and very wide shoulders. I am generally a 56 or 58 tall jacket and so it was very tight for me. It should however fit any remotely normal sized human being LOL.

Blimey Mark, If I come over stateside for a thru-hike, I'll take you for grizzly bear protection. OK, I'm a very tall 6'8" with a positively svelte (!) 44" chest. So will the straps let out far enough to make a hip belt sit in the right place for me do you think? I guess at a pinch I could extend the fabric between the top of the pack and the padded sections.

Thanks

Rog

Feather on long torso on 01/14/2014 12:04:45 MST Print View

I'll share a couple of thoughts on this, since I own the same pack. My Feather pack is a large and my torso measurement is around 21".

I use the "V" shaped belt strap (not the pocket belt option). The attachment points along the sides of the pack are 4 1/2" apart. If someone were to attach a webbing belt strap to the lower attachment only, it seems that it would lengthen the torso by 2 1/4". Somebody please correct me if I am wrong about this.

I would hesitate to put load lifters on this model, or to pinch the fabric together above the shoulder strap attachment point. It would interfere with the zip closure top option. Although, the pack could still be used with it's roll top option, if fabric was pinched together.

Good luck with the sale. Somebody is going to get a very cool pack!

Rog,

I think it should fit you just fine. It's mostly my width/girth of my shoulders and chest that make it too tight on me. With a 44 coat you should be fine.
