Has anyone heard any more about the extent of the fire in Inyo County and the effect it's having on the John Muir Trail and the Onion Valley trailhead? Today's LA Times suggests that Rangers may restrict the issuance of wilderness permits in the region, "at least for a few days."

Hi John,
2 good places to start would be the Mt. Whitney Ranger Station in Lone Pine and the White Mountain Ranger Station in Bishop. Either one would either have current information or be able to direct you to an agency that does. I personally have found the White Mountain folks a bit easier to get real info out of, but that's just my own opinion.
