My kids and I saw this marker when we were out geocaching. I only knew of her name because of this park but didn't know her story until I read this. As difficult as it would be to survive a winter in the Blue Mountains unsupported, I'm beyond impressed that she kept her children alive while living off of the land.
Hilgrand Oregon is only a couple hours away from where I live. I'm making plans to head down there later this winter to see if I can find any more information from the library as to where she lived during the winter.
Reading stories like this always helps me to put life into perspective.
