This is a really sad but special podcast by the Dirtbag Diaries about some veterans and their experiences after leaving the military.

There's lots of patriotic fervor when we go to war, but afterwords we move on to other things, veterans are just an entitlement

What did the guy say, lots of good people in the Veteran's Administration, they're just overwhelmed

"What did the guy say, lots of good people in the Veteran's Administration, they're just overwhelmed"

I'd agree with that somewhat. They are underfunded to do their mission but there are other problems as well. Certainly a major problem which needs to be addressed but I was already aware of this prior to listening to this episode and walked away with something else from this story.

I think what I liked and focused on with this story is how these men appreciated the healing powers of the wilderness enough to start this organization of veterans for veterans. Therapists and Drs. have long understood the power of peer counseling. For example, on my wife's PACT team, there is one counselor who is diagnosed with schizophrenia who works with other schizophrenics. My experience in the military was pre-911 but do appreciate that there are many aspects of the military experience which is lost on those who haven't served so I can see how this program would be beneficial.

My hometown congreesman had an op-ed about "supporting veterans every day." He voted against ending the shutdown. Disgusting POS.

Thanks for your service Doug.

Spelt,

I've always been of the belief that if you break it, you bought it but obviously the government at large hasn't adopted this policy.
