Cold Feet on 06/28/2007 16:22:12 MDT Print View

OK, so I got my really nice Cocoon hoody and pants. As I tried them on, I thought "This is so great. I can get by with a lighter sleeping bag. I'm covered from the top of my head to um, my ankles...". So, this leads me to ask about ideas for additional foot warmth, especially inside a sleeping bag. My boots add a lot of warmth, so I'm really only concerned with keeping my feet warm in the sleeping bag. Thus, I am not interested in coverings that can contain durable bottoms (for walking around camp). I believe Nunatak makes some down booties, but they are relatively heavy. Perhaps another fleece sock to be worn over the hiking sock might do the trick (just get it in a larger size). Any ideas?

Integral Designs makes an insulated (Primaloft I think) sock called the "Hot Socks" I beleive. I havne't tried them, but have been tempted to pick up a pair. I think they come in at about 4.5 oz/pair.

I think an elephant's foot or half bag would make an excellent addition to the Cocoon line.

The Cocoon hoody & pants combined with a Jacks'R'Better No Sniveller quilt would be a solid 3 season combination except for the feet.

I bet that FanaticFringe would make foot box if Ryan is unwilling to add that to his line.

What about a nice pair of fluffy wool socks? in emergency you can always use them as ...socks.
The possumdown ones at 1.5oz should be worth a look, I use a pair of angora wool socks for that.

Down socks. I have three pairs, my smallest ones are lighter than a pair of wool socks and scrunch down to almost nothing!

My wife wears some super thick fleece socks that she gets from EMS in New England. They come in every bright color of the rainbow with snowflake designs on them. She wears them camping and around the house and even to bed. I think I'm going to have to bury her in them.

I wear WigWam Wool/Silk hiker sock, which is a thick plushy mostly merino wool sock when hiking in cold weather and always carry an extra dry pair in case of unsuccessful stream crossings. I simply wear both pair (assuming both are dry) to sleep on cold nights.
