This paragraph from Wikipedia caught my eye:

"To fulfill Parsons' funeral wishes, Kaufman and a friend stole his body from the airport and in a borrowed hearse drove it to Joshua Tree. Upon reaching the Cap Rock section of the park, they attempted to cremate Parsons' corpse by pouring five gallons of gasoline into the open coffin and throwing a lit match inside. What resulted was an enormous fireball. The police gave chase but, as one account puts it, "were encumbered by sobriety," and the men escaped.[37] The two were arrested several days later. Since there was no law against stealing a dead body, they were only fined $750[40] for stealing the coffin and were not prosecuted for leaving 35 pounds (16 kg) of his charred remains in the desert. Parsons's body was eventually buried in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, Louisiana."

Quite a colorful adventure! Personally, i will never understand why anyone cares about what happens to their body after they die.

Personally I hope this makes it to the U.S. by the time I kick the bucket: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4293992.stm

Interesting Spelt !. I should specify that i do care about and understand the environmental aspect of dead bodies, just not about the sentimental attachment of, "my body needs to be buried here or there." or whatever, as highlighted by the excerpt of that article that Daryl shared.

Hmmm my post disappeared. My apologies if this becomes a double post.

I didn't know much about Parsons' life and it was interesting to read about it.

This is how I want to go:

"I want to be stuffed with cuben and sent into space."

I have to wait until I die before I can have that happen? Aw shucks...

I had the pleasure of talking at length once with an integral member of the Flying Burrito Brothers. I won't say who it was, it was a "off the record" type of thing and I gave my word not to divulge.

He said that Gram was an extremely talented, gregarious and charismatic individual, but also somewhat arrogant, lacking in maturity and at times, a jerk. No suprise that he drank and drugged himself to death by the age of 26.

But his work was wonderful, and I know that talent and torment often go together. So I'll remember songs like Hickory Wind and Christine's Tune with great fondness, and hope that all may appreciate him.

Is it weird that as soon as I read that, I started listing all my favourite trees?

No. What was weird was the PM asking "Hey Ian, I really like Dogwood trees... what can I do to help you speed up the process?"

The name is vaguely familiar. Google filled in the blank. I was 6 in '73

Dude. How OLD are you?

As for disposal. Can't we do a chipper at the end of a pier? Waste not.

I'm almost 56. I was backpacking when you were still riding a tricycle. But I won't hold your "YOUTH" against you. :)
