Re: After the forest fires, any photos? on 12/19/2013 14:24:52 MST Print View

"Has anyone come across recent photos from inside the deep woods burn forbidden zone?"

And risk being picked up by the NSA?

There is little running water anywhere.

Note... I do not have an email address, computer, or internet access. I never read this thread. I don't exist.

Art there has been almost no information. A lot of serious damage. This was a hot fire. PCT to Tahquitz area? I wouldn't be surprised if it is 10+ years. Also a long time for the Laws/Caramba area.

Wow, this is sad. I am doubly glad now I had a chance to hike this beautiful area before moving away from SoCal.

Most San Jacinto Trails Now Open on 06/21/2014 07:56:42 MDT Print View

as of June 20, 2014 ...

We did a run from Idyllwild's Humber Park to the San Jacinto Summit yesterday.
In talking to the ranger while getting a permit, most of the trails (well most that I go on) are now open. She gave me a map showing open and closed trails.

Humber Park to Devils Slide Saddle - open
Saddle to San Jacinto Summit via PCT and Wellman - open
Wellman to Summit - open
Tram to Wellman - open
Deer Springs Tr - open
Strawberry Junction connector trail - open
Devils Slide Saddle to Tahquitz Lookout (both trails) - open
Marion Mt trail - open

Saddle to Willows Crossing and Laws Camp area - closed
PCT south of Tahquitz Lookout - closed

Trail Closures, San Jacinto Mtns (Map Link) on 01/11/2015 19:24:00 MST Print View

I don't know if it would be helpful, but I drew up a map of the closures in the San Jacinto Mtns due to the Mountain Fire. I was mainly doing this for the PCT, but I have now added other trail closures. I'm pretty confident that I'm accurately portraying the trails shown in solid red as being closed. The one dotted red line I'm not quite sure what's closed and what's not. I'll ask around for clarification.
