I am slowly working on a new website. I hope that it will be looking good in a couple weeks. For now, I am working on getting the Dayhiking and Links sections done first. Backpacking will come after that.
The basis of the site is for women. Eventually we are going to do a section on helping women meet other women for finding hiking partners.

I was pleased to find out soon after meeting my girlfriend that her (and even her parent's) all practice lightweight backpacking! I have a great photo of all of us in the typical holding up our packs with one hand pose. The three of them all have Granite Gear Virgas (even in hte same shade of brown) and then there's me, the odd man out, with my ULA Conduit.

Sounds like a perfect match ;-) Hehheh!

I met my husband thru the forums over on BP.com in 2002. He lived on the East Coast, I on the West Coast. He moved out West, and when we first met and started hiking together, I got an eyeful (and earful) of why I should go light.
In the years that have gone by, our hiking club has always had more women than men, and a number of relationships have come out of it. One of them is getting married in a couple months also :-D And in that time, going light in our group has gone from the couple fruitcakes to pretty much everyone shedding gear. So it is kind of cool: the guys join up, and meet women who are already far ahead of the curve!

I still get lots of comments like "why do you do this?" but after a few minutes they're typically followed by "how can I do that?"

The first time I met my girlfriend's parent we did an overnight backpacking trip along the Superior Hiking Trail. Her dad is a bit of a gear head and he and I talked each other's ears off the whole weekend. It was great. Here's the photo I spoke of earlier.

I'm flattered by the offers and advice from some of you. So sorry, but I think I'll stick with my guy, Sam. We have many future trail adventures ahead of us.
