How to attract mosquitoes on 08/07/2013 23:44:38 MDT Print View

In contrast to some other active threads, I just found this article from Smithsonian Magazine:

To attract mosquitoes:

– Have Type O blood (bit twice as often as Type A)

– Exhale more Carbon Dioxide (generally larger people)

– Sweat a lot

– Have large amounts of a few kinds of bacteria on your skin (vs. a diverse population)

– "Just a single 12-ounce bottle of beer can make you more attractive – to the insects."

– Be pregnant (attract twice as many mosquitoes)

– Wear colors that stand out (black, dark blue, or red)

– Lack natural repellents (some people produce natural mosquito repellents)

– Have other genetic factors, "estimated to account for 85 percent of variability between people"

I must be sweet? on 08/08/2013 06:16:51 MDT Print View

This seems contradictory to my long history with Mosquitos.

Not type O

Weigh next to nothing

As far as I know I'm not pregnant

Naturally attractive.....heck ya! Well that answers it.

I think the mosquito population is much less selective than lab test may show. Although the color thin seems to be a well known
"Fact" with old timers, farmers and so on.
