AT Section Hike in the Whites 6/26-7/2 15-20mi/day on 06/10/2013 08:51:43 MDT Print View

Going to do a section hike with a fellow BPLer in the Whites. Looking to keep the group very small so we can keep time, but wondering if there are any other BPLers wanting to join in.

Trip 1: Franconia Notch to Hanover NH (Dartmouth). 70 miles. Moosilauke is a very big up and a big down then the Kinsman Range is longer and more gradual. Camping would mostly be at AT shelters and tent sites. 4 days of hiking minimum, up to 7 days if all hell breaks lose.

Then if all goes well...

Trip 2: Wildcat-Carter-Moriah, Pinkham Notch to Gorham Rte 2. 20 miles, 2 days. Starting in Pinkham Notch, the climbs will be steepest going up to Wildcat, then up to Carter Dome. We could camp at Imp Shelter, or somewhere east of Carter Notch, breaking it into a 13 and 7 mile day.

Trip 3: Mahoosuc Range, Gorham Rte 2 to Grafton Notch Rte 26: 30 miles, 2 to 3 days. Wicked steep climbs and descents, and the Mahoosuc Notch (a big boulder playground for adults).

Would meet up the night of the 25th (late after work) and shuttle cars if possible or do it very early in the morning.

Bryce that 2nd trip is a great traverse. I would leave a plan to start at the lost pond trailhead if the river at Glen ellis is high. Also DO mount Hight.. it is .2 more than skipping it but well worth the views. Imp shelter is a nice spot with a great double decker shelter, views, water, platforms.
