cryptosporidium? on 07/03/2005 08:40:56 MDT Print View

I am not knowledgeable about cryptosporidium. I know that Aqua Mira, for example, recommends a double dosage and double wait time if cryptosporidium contamination is suspected. My question is: where and when should I suspect cryptosporidium contamination?

The main source of crypto spores is livestock. US cattle are almost 100% infected and excrete over 4 tons of crypto spores annually. Suspect water downstream of persistent human habitation and livestock pens. Symptoms appear after about five days and last another week, after which recovery will occur (absent a compromised immune system) without treatment, which is good because there is no treatment.
