$190 (shipped) Kids Homemade 25* Sleeping bag with full zip 20 ounces and 5"+ loft on 05/17/2013 17:58:57 MDT Print View

SOLD

For the rest of you, I still may make a few more bags as I have done a lot of research into this. The only thing with not getting into the 7-8k start up for this is the prices are 3x more.

If anyone else is interested, let me know

I will not be going into production with my children sleeping bags.
There has not been enough interest to pull the trigger on the start up cost.

I have made this 1 mock-up that has $200 in material alone.
Here is the info on it.

Selling the one and only bag for $190 shipped.
I will only take a cashiers check for payment.

This a 20 ounce bag and a little over 5 1/2" of loft (even a little more in the foot), good for 20-25*.
I had someone stay the night in it and he had no idea that you could cinch the head down (and didn't even use the hood).
He started to get getting cold at 28* with sweats and a long sleeve shirt on.

Fabric 1 ounce fabric and 800 fill.
Height is up to 55" as that is the average height for an 11 year old.
The bag does tapper yet there is a little more room in the foot area for wiggle room.
The dimensions on length and width are off a 63" girth bag.
It will be a little tight for an 11 year old who is bigger (more upper girth) than average.
The fabric is the super soft and strong for it's weight and has a very good water repellency.

Boy, I am glad I didn't go into production.

Tough crowd, this is a really nice bag.

If I had the funds to buy this I would, and I don't even have kids. I'd drag a nephew along or something, or save it for the future child.

Good luck, someone is going to get an amazing bag.

in addition to paypal, if you could summarize the specs in a more convenient form. i looked at the other thread you reference, but got confused on which prototype you were talking about. I have a 7 year old for whom i have to lug a heavy bag for her. so could be interested if it was clear what was on offer.

Thanks, it's been updated

I have a paypal account, but for some reason there are a few problems that even they cannot fix so for some reason I can only make payments.

any pics? on 05/26/2013 12:29:58 MDT Print View

I'm kinda tempted by this as my 6 yo is starting to say she wants to start backpacking and I'm cringing at the thought of hauling all her heavy camp gear.

however she is tiny tiny at about 42" and maybe 35 pounds soaking wet and so I worry that she will struggle to keep warm with such a (relatively) big bag. On the other hand she would be able to use it forever.

Did you state the weight on the other thread or did i just completely miss it. Also, silly question (unless you have a six year old girl) but what color is it? I don't suppose you made in pink and purple stripes? :-)

Linda,

I just got a 10 yard supply of the fabric I was going to use and is an off black.

Just copy and paste the link below for pictures and the explanation of the item.

It is 20 ounces with a lot of down. I overstuffed 30% and the down was a little better quality than I though it would be.
For that reason there will be problems with dead air space in the bag.asdddqq

Hi Aaron,

Assuming the bag has a full length zipper, I'll take it.
