Center Pole on 05/28/2013 11:29:01 MDT Print View

Richard,

Is HMG including a trekking pole extender, selling a custom center pole or recommending tying 2 poles together?

The Ultamid 2 tent slots nicely in with existing options size-wise:

HMG Ultamid 2 107 x 83 x 64H
MLD Duomid 95 x 60 x 54H
MLD Supermid 107 x 107 x 69H
HMG Ultamid 4 111 x 111 x 75H

Its pricey, but I expect the cuben tent market has tolerance for it!

I actually didn't even ask about it as I have a Luxurylite hiking staff that I use that will work perfect with it. I'll check with Mike at HMG to see what they are recommending.

The HMG UltaMid is available! on 05/28/2013 13:12:19 MDT Print View

Here's a little more information on our new UltaMid that might help in comparisons to mids from other manufacturers:

-The HMG UltaMid is constructed using CT2E.08 Cuben Fiber which weighs 0.78oz per square yard.

-The HMG UltaMid has fully bonded seams. Its waterproof right out of the box -- no seam sealing necessary.

-The HMG UltaMid includes all guy lines needed for set up (stakes are not included).

-The HMG UltaMid features a peak cone reinforced with a plastic stiffener for maximum durability and to prevent deformation when setting up using irregularly shaped trekking poles, sticks or even skis.

Pulled the Trigger on Ultamid 4 on 06/04/2013 15:09:36 MDT Print View

After extensive Q&A with Mike of HMG I pulled the trigger and ordered an Ultamid 4 today.

Will report with images once I get it.

Way larger than the DuoMid on 06/05/2013 20:27:03 MDT Print View

Several Seattle-based people and myself have been testing the 2p for OGL. The most significant difference between this and other mids is size: the UltraLid is much larger than the DuoMid. It's a comfortable 2p shelter rather than a mostly for solo use mid. The small features could be improved, but pale in importance when compared to the increased size and comfort.a
