San Gorgonio via Fish Creek - Any snow/ice in May? on 05/16/2013 01:14:44 MDT Print View

I have the permit and ready to go this weekend, then it occurred to me that in past years there's been slippery ice as late as June and July, in the last 2 miles prior to summit.

It would be ridiculous to haul an ice axe and crampons up the mountain, when the lowland temps were 100F last week. But of course, my luck...

Anyone peak bagged San G via the backdoor Fish Creek in the last two months that can provide first person experience on the existence and impassibility of the ice for May2013?

Thanks

If you're not a member of this forum, and a local, you definitely should be!

If you can't get into the forum right away, the report says:

Just went up South Fork to San G via
: Dollar Saddle yesterday (5/11).
: There is still some snow pack on the
: trail right above Dollar Saddle and
: then again right past Dry Lake view.
: We did not use out microspikes
: though since there were plenty of
: foot steps. Some slushy snow right
: new the summit too.
