I'm looking for the cheapest source of silnylon stuff sacks. I'm gearing up a group and need a large (15L+), a medium (10L or so), and a small (<5L) stuff sack for each person.

What's the cheapest thing out there?

Walmart has a 3-pack of basic nylon stuff sacks for $5.00. The dry bags were something like $10.00 for a 3-pack.

I just bought the dry sacks on Sunday. The quality is pretty decent but they aren't stuff sacks and have a PU coating instead of Silicone...I'd still recommend them then they're not what OP is looking for.

I'd see which one of these is closer to you (shipping is likely the difference in pricing):

Hey thanks on 04/20/2013 10:19:27 MDT Print View

Kelly, I've got a set of the walmart dry bags, but hadn't seen the stuff sacks. PU or silicone doesn't matter so much. Price/basic functionality trumps weight in this situation. I'll go try to hunt some down.

JP Those are great links on the silnylon. Easily some of the best prices I've seen.

This is my first time to gear up a group and it amazes me how quickly the little things add up!

I've even thought about using just a mesh bags for the kid's clothes, since large ones can be had for cheap and could function as a wash bag, mosquito headnet, etc. $3 mesh bags:

REI used gear sale? I usually see a couple going for around $5.

Oh ye who get to live in the shadow of an REI ! ! ! Jealous I am.

The closest REI to me is 2 hours away--and it is a small one with very little emphasis on hiking since we live so far away from the mountains.

If it weren't for Gearswap, I don't know what I would do.

Coincidently I saw some OR (I think) silnylon stuffsacks on Steep and earlier today (actually yesterday) I forget the price but they looked pretty good and were sharply discounted. They usually run the same items several times so you might want to monitor the site. I wanted to get some but I saw them just as the opportunity to buy ended. I am going to set the speaker icon on the top of the webpage to beep when the items to buy change so as not to miss them again. Good luck to us both.
