WTB: Used 50-60L Pack!!! on 04/16/2013 17:54:52 MDT Print View

I'm trying to get a buddy a starter pack for an upcoming trip. I've already been able to get him a sleeping bag from GearSwap so I thought I'd give it another shot.

Measurements:
Male
5'9.5"
29 waist
19-19.5 spine
(this is probably a medium for most packs)

Pack:
-Internal frame with stays - preferably not frameless. His gear isn't too heavy but it's not UL
-50-60 L
-Good hipbelt and shoulder straps
-Decent condition - used is fine
-Cheaper is better - preferably under $75 but shoot me all offers.
-Weight isn't a huge concern - 3lb or less is fine
-Needs to be here in around 2 weeks for a trip 1 week later

Thanks BPL'ers. Please post and PM if it's not too much trouble!

Send any interest my way - I've received two PMs about Gregory packs and a heads up about the REI Flash 65 on Daily Deals so far. More offers would be great!

50L and 55L packs on 04/17/2013 16:06:11 MDT Print View

I've got 2 packs - both brand new - one is 50L and one is 55L. Both of them are prototypes from a Russian company named Red Fox. Quality similar to North Face/Marmot/Arteryx... $85 each. I sent along one picture with both of them. If you'd like some more pix, send me your email.2 Red Fox Packs

REI Flash on 04/17/2013 18:56:19 MDT Print View

I'm 19 torso, 29 waist.
Many brands don't even have hipbelts less than 30 inches.
According to specs hipbelt on REI Flash 65 size M fits 31-37 inches, and indeed it was too big for me. I replaced it with REI Flash 62 size M with the hipbelt from size S (it's detachable on 62).

I can sell this pack. REI Flash 62 size M/S, good condition, $90 + shipping.

Cole,
I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but my brother is roughly the same size as your friend and is just getting into camping and also needs a pack with similar specs, so if you've got any packs you're passing on that don't meet your needs, I'd love to know what they are. I've actually been hoping to find him a Gregory Z45 or Z55... maybe my favorite starter pack.

Obviously, I'm also watching for good deals online for him -- if I spot anything that looks like a good fit, I'll let you know. The best thing available right now is the Lowe Alpine Zepton 50 at Sierra Trading Post. There's a coupon floating around right now that drops the price to ~$86. Add an item or two to get the total bill to $100 and it's free shipping as well. If it had hip pockets, I'd probably already have ordered one for my brother--if that's not a dealbreaker for your friend, might be worth considering.

Good luck in your search. Thanks.

FWIW - if the pack is fit and worn correctly, the hip belt should be worn around your hips and not your waist, so waist size is irrelevant.

Good lead on the Granite Gear -- just wish it had hipbelt pockets.

One other possibility I noticed on STP. The Mountain Hardwear Kanza 55 pack (also lacking hipbelt pockets) but it's $104 after coupon and should be pretty bombproof and not too heavy at 3 pounds, 5 oz... I'd guess you could remove the floating lid and trip some straps and knock off a half a pound.

Just need one good option with hipbelt pockets...

No belt-pockets, though.

Golite Quest on 04/18/2013 13:42:51 MDT Print View

I have the golite quest 65 (the version that's currently in stock, but 2012, so a couple oz lighter and different color) and it's great for heavier/bulky loads. I use it when I need a bear keg in the Olympic National Park. The frame/hip belt system is great and really transfers the weight to the hips without putting a lot of pressure on the lumbar, etc.

**Update ** NM on the quest 50, looks like they no longer have it on the website for men. Women's only.

Keep an eye on Steep And Cheap. They frequently have the Sierra Designs revival packs on there for around 80.

I was able to find him a Flash 62 with a well fit hip belt from Slava. Came quickly and was in excellent condition, tags included. Thanks!
