Wanted - Complete Setup for New Backpacker on 04/02/2013 16:58:49 MDT Print View

Hi Folks,

My dad is an avid photographer and would like to get into backpacking as an extension of that. He has a history of knee problems and would like to keep things light, but also doesn't want to spend a small fortune to get started. At the moment all he has are properly fitting trail shoes for the first time in his life, but will need everything else.

Below is a little list to get things started, but let me know what else you have that a new backpacker might need.

PM or email jdavidlantz@gmail.com

Thanks!

-David

Backpack - 20.5" torso, light frame and good (large) hipbelt for carrying extra weight of camera gear

Tent - he tends to be in wet, buggy areas and would prefer an enclosed tent - 1.5-2 man since he hates feeling claustrophobic (I keep trying to talk him into a tarp...)

Sleeping bag - Regular length, but it needs to have quite a bit of girth...

Sleeping pad

Trekking poles

Light day pack - to carry camera equipment after setting up camp

Stove

Pot

Headlamp

Etc.
