I'm an alpine ski patroller at our local Las Vegas ski area. It's a small area but avalanche prone since it is in Lee Canyon. The name says it all in terms of avy-prone aspect and slope angle.

Anyway, at the tender age of 70 I've been invited to try out for the Snow Safety team which skins up from 9,300 ft. to around 10,500 ft., and, aside from digging test pits, they use hand charges to set off small avalanches. Then ther's the hairy ski back down as well.

I will try out but wonder if I still "have it" to do that work. This summer will be one of much more intense training for the tryout. The problem is I look younger than my body is and maybe that's the reason for the invitation.

But as Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry once said, "A man's gotta know his limitations."
Maybe I'll find mine.
