Fashion is a funny business... dudes stopped wearing a neckerchief when the cowboy movies in the 60s stopped being popular.
However these days, those who are blessed with a job, but cursed with a 60-mins drive home into the sun, particularly top unbuttoned or V-neck shirt/blouse will notice a reddish leathery neck to chest triangle from the daily sun rays.
The Mrs came up with the idea to do her own fashion thing, but has a scarf dedicated for driving, that she wraps around her neck while driving in solar sunset traffic.
Applying sunblock at 5PM when leaving work, to drive for an hour just doesn't make sense. Greasy hands, stains work clothes, etc. so the driving scarf works for her, and the reddish neck chest triangle cleared up.
As for myself, I recall driving road trips to Vegas, SF, San Diego, and Death Valley with my driver arm resting on the window, silently baking for 4 hours, because the car cabin has A/C, and I don't realize the sizzling fajita is me.
These days, I wear a long sleeve everywhere, I hope I don't look as pasty as those popular teen vampire movies.
