Can anyone point me to a good online resource and a good mountain bike store in Orange County, CA? I'm interested in finding local trails and the right type of bike for them and don't want to end up with a walmart/costco special. It's been 15 years since I've ridden and I don't remember much.

The Path in Tustin is one of the best shops in the country. One of their employees is a semi-regular here.

:) "Weight Weenies" is the UL version of MTB, taken to the same extremes hikers do, for sure! Who among us hasn't drilled out a chainring? Ha Ha!
