Bear would have slid downhill in the dark on a cast off garbage can lid, slamming into a big fir and creating an instant snow cave with the snow falling from the branches. He would then start a fire by rubbing two hibernating small mammals together and generating a static spark.

I'm glad the kid paid attention and is okay.

The main thing that the kid had in his favor was his age, and he probably has a high metabolic rate, so he didn't freeze.
