True... although I've found myself using the erroneous term 'the Sierras'.

Sierras is for hipsters and wanna be players.

Why not Nevadas? 'Cause that would just be silly.

People also use the terms "Cascades" and "Rockies". I think it would sound funny to say I'm going to hike in the Cascade or Rocky.

Perhaps the plural is used to address the multiple peaks and mountains within the ranges?

People don't say "I'm heading to the Rainiers." when referring to Mt Rainier because it is one mountain. (Except in a very old Running The Rainiers beer commercial.)

If we resolve this we can then address the very important "Smokey Bear"/"Smokey The Bear" issue.

I myslef have never had even a brief lapse of grammaticle slipeage....in fact, I prides myselve on never using the term "Sierras" to equate our wonderfull "Sierra" mountane range....come on people, if you can't uses the correct words then take a cammunity colege coarse in gramer for Petes' sake!
