So when did they separate Chaff from the other forums? Clicking "Recent Threads" excludes Chaff.

I came upon BPL in 2004. If memory serves me correctly, Chaff was around already.

I say wheat be gone. Let Chaff stay. :)

HERE is a post circa early 2005. Same old bitching's about flaming, the need for moderators, and doing away with anonymous postings. Well, at least that last item got taken care of.

Gone but not forgotten. I see a sperate button just for Chaff. Can't say I ever visited that page before as I am a New Posts Since Last Visit type.

Should make some happy. A happy medium. This is good. Should be announced if new.

With the recent activity in Chaff I have added a couple of name to my do not hike with list.

Must have been yesterday. I wonder if they'll do the same thing with Gear Swap, since that's the second (and for some, first) most bitched about thread showing up and clogging some poor folks' list of new threads/posts.

Very quiet on the CFW thread. Was there a truce?

Maybe the collective intellect has been exhausted.

Intellect was exhausted after page 3. That thread was fueled mostly by ego -- and later by a "twisted" camaraderie and collective will to keep the pages going. :)

Haha Ben!

Why didn't they implement an option for each individual to filter out Chaff instead of formally designating it the black sheep?

Given that most people are only interested in certain topics -- many forums allow users to include / exclude specific branches. Not a big deal, but a nice feature, so people don't have to scroll through so many branches to get to the ones they want. Alas, not on this forum.

"Alas, not on this forum."

As I understand it (and as y'all probably understand it as well), the ancient (in tech terms) software that runs this forum won't allow it, or would take an awful lot of extra programming to make it happen which is, presently, unaffordable.

I'm kinda surprised they branched off Chaff, to be honest. That obviously took some programming. So they do listen, I guess, they just don't communicate worth a shit. But that's been a very longstanding issue, as we all know.

They listen like someone in the next room eavesdropping, but can't quite make out everything clearly.

"I dunno. I think they said Julie made out with Jack last night. And they want Chaff on its separate channel."

"No, they said Julie hurt her back. And they need a walking staff to cross the channel."

"Whatever. Julie is a slut."

That was surprisingly self-amusing.

I guess we Chaffers are considered Mavericks.

"Maverick Big Dogs" ...I like the sound of it. (Big Dogs comes from intro to Chaff forum)

If I adopt this nickname people might forget one of my old nicknames.....Mr. Fussy Pants.

Backfire on 02/24/2013 14:35:09 MST Print View

I wonder if removing Chaff from the general population will backfire. Since its slightly more hidden (one extra clik of the mouse, whoopee) the venting on Chaff may find its way onto the regular boards. There hasn't been a post in a day here before this one, yet the Arcteryx thread is heating up with Chaffy undertones.

I don't know, there's always been some serious thread drift in many threads. 'Hiding' chaff probably does mean that the more silly stuff (most of my posts, for instance) will make its way into regular threads instead of being separated out.
