This week's new articles are a photo essay and a hiking video. For the record, I love hiking videos and photo essays. But when I paid to join this site, I expected that the members-only content would be more than just stories about backpacking. I don't need to pay for that kind of material--I can go all over the internet and found terrific trail journals and trip reports.

Someone tell me why I should renew my membership when it expires in a few weeks?

You already answered your own question. You do not see the value based on what you are looking for BPL to provide. Others may see value based on what they want.

Just get the $5 annual if you want to post. Don't if you don't. I would not spend $25 certainly.
