Thanks Dustin for your useful analysis. I am glad someone noticed the Piton Hybrid jacket's construction details. Given the large proportion of Wind Pro fabric w/DWR and pockets, I am suprised this jacket comes in nearly 15% lighter weight than the R1/R2. Zero wind/water resistance and pilling from wear caused by my pack shoulder straps and the waist buckle, and only 1 chest pocket are the main issues I have with my R1 hoody now. Most times I have to wear another shell over it to get better protection and more pockets.
I almost always wear gloves while hiking so I use handwarmer pockets as stash pockets to keep water bottle, dry gloves, and perhaps my gas canister warm. When compared to the R1/R2 jackets in my comparo linked above, the Piton's seem well suited for this task with their higher placement towards the center of the abdomen out of the way of the pack shoulder/waist straps, and smaller zip openings to keep things from falling out.
As for the price (I did warn to ignore it), $100 for a fleece, albeit a hightech one, is certainly steep. On the otherhand, $100 barely covers a ramen lunch and an afternoon movie for me and the wife here in the Big Mikan. And FYI, Patagonia Japan sells it for JPY21,000 in their stores here so US$100 looks to be a relative bargain!
