Donate Some Gear? on 01/01/2013 09:34:38 MST Print View

Hello all,

I'm in the process of putting together a hiker's care box for hiker who's contacted me. I'm not going to spill his life story here but its enough to say that he was injured in service to our nation and needs some gear so he can enjoy the wilderness that is helping him heal.

He's been hiking with old gear just to get out but he really needs some updates

I am sending...

Quilt (prototype that went south but still a good quilt)
Clothes, he takes a 44" waist and 3Xl shirt (i have some shorts and shirts to send it just so happens I am about the same size)

I might also have a pack and shelter but if they're what im thinking of they aren't great. I need to check my bin

If anybody has gear they'd like to contribute he could also use a tarp or tent, rain gear or poncho, hiking poles (helps his injury),sleeping pad, solo pot, boots/Shoes 11.5ee

My guess is a headlamp or flashlight and perhaps a few of the odds and ends type things we don't often think of.

I'm planning to put my stuff together by next week but if anyone has things to contribute i'll gladly cover the shipping so we can help him get back outside.

The response to this has been awesome. Apart for some footwear and maybe rain gear I think we've covered the bases. Contact me about shipping and we'll get this care package sent off.

I'm not sure Dave, that seems big but I don't know how those fit. I'm an 11.5eeee and was thinking I'd go 13 next round but shoe fit is a very personal thing. What do others think? I can check with him.

Tim I have some Danners that are a size 12 regular width, a little stretched out that may work with plenty of life left in them.

Let me know if these wil work.

Tim, I might have a couple of Patagonia LS' that are size XXL but run very large. I'm 250 lbs and they are big on me. Can you use them?

Tim,
I didn't have a spork, but what I do have is a Snowpeak Titanium spoon and fork in it's own little webbing holder.
