Anyone climbed Orizaba via this route?Described here:http://www.backpacker.com/may_2002_destinations_mexico_pico_orizaba/destinations/4393Not a lot of information online about it. Going to Mexico for two weeks after Christmas and definitely going to attempt to summit Orizaba - preferably in a way more interesting and less crowded than the standard 4x4 to piedre grande hut and jamapa glacier.Any other comments on Orizaba or other advice on worthwhile mountains/backpacking/climbing in Mexico would be appreciated as well.
Secor has a book on climbing Mexico's volcanoes http://www.amazon.com/Mexicos-Volcanoes-R-J-Secor/dp/0898867983/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1355337397&sr=8-4&keywords=R.+J.+Secor
dang, wish I'd seen this earlier! I did a variation from the standard route years ago, and we incorporated much more of the ridge, and lots of mixed terrain... anyway, hope your time was sucessful
It was quite successful, here's a video: http://vimeo.com/57462247Secors book was useless. Luc Mehl was apparently there around the same time and did it way better than us: http://thingstolucat.com/orizaba-traverse/
