PIF Nunatak Arc Specialist on 10/07/2012 12:57:12 MDT Print View

Hi everyone,

I purchased this Nunatak quilt recently from this thread:

http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/xdpy/forum_thread/67919/index.html?skip_to_post=580142#580142

The bag was very tight, and I removed the sil-nylon bottom. It's functionally equivalent to a Arc Specialist without straps. It weighs just about 17oz, has 10 oz of 800+ fill, and is in excellent condition (except for the fraying from cutting the sil-nylon). It will fit someone up to 5'11''. I paid 160 for it.

As my birthday is coming up, I usually try to do a charitable act each year. This year it will be a giving a nice quilt to someone.

There is a catch. I'd like this to go to someone who is UNEMPLOYED. We are very gear-rich on this forum, but it's clear that an underlying love of the outdoors is the unifying motivation that keeps bpl.com going. So if you like to go light, maybe can't afford the outrageous prices of UL gear, and can get use out of it (please, don't sell it for profit), then PM me. I'll pick up shipping (americans only, please).

Thanks,

Mike

PS: This is not a formal "PIF." You're not obligated to give anything, but it's obviously encouraged. Also, none of that one-for-one stuff.

why i love bpl on 10/07/2012 14:01:35 MDT Print View

This is awesome. I'm a student, technically unemployed, but I don't need this because I already have a bag. But I can't help but think of how many people could use this kind of item. So cool of you!

I agree. Thanks a ton for the quilt. It will be loved and well used.
As far as my PIF item, I just cut the material and will be sewing them up shortly.

Just so everyone knows, I was emailed by many potential PIFers. But Kyle stood out, because he wanted it for someone else, his special lady (who is completing the PCT as we speak). I gave it to him because giving is exponential. If you give, other's will think of those close to them and give. Thanks everyone. bpl.com is such a nice place.

I just missed it... on 10/07/2012 22:11:49 MDT Print View

I'm glad you found a home for it.

I wish I would have seen this earlier.

I've been unemployed because of visual disability has started to progressively get worse this year. Retinal detachments and cataracts. Money is tight but I've managed to sell gear hear and there to go lighter and get back on the trail.

Very generous of you!

Be well everyone.

This is one of the best PIF's I've seen. It's nice to see such generosity amongst the hiking community, and congrats to the new owner of a great quilt.
