So I'm on a quick weekender with three hiking buddies, and on the second day we stop at a gorgeous overlook. I pull out my new iPhone 5 and exclaim, "My new iPhone has this really cool panorama feature, you just pan the camera and it creates a panorama pic for you, you don't have to stitch it together or anything! Cool, huh!

Whereby Ryan, holding his Galaxy 3s, responds dryly, "Yeah, very cool. I thought so too when I got that on my phone. Last year....."

Suddenly, I find myself in the middle of a Samsung commercial:
Me: Look at what my cool new iPhone can do!
Ryan: My phone's been able to do that for a year!
Me: Drats!
Fade to text: The next big thing is already here......

Thinking about this as we continued on our way, I suddenly began singing, to the tune of Oklahoma:

Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan-orama
on my iPhone isn't all that new
Samsung's been doing it for a year
Or so I hear
With these Apple products I am through!

When I'm done, Tony quietly says: "Yeah, but who do you think the chicks gather around, the guy holding the iPhone or the guy holding the Samsung?"

I pondered that for a moment more, and then belted out:

Glaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam-orama
Is where my iPhone really, really shines
I'll get all the gals
Not my Samsung pals
When the beauties see me holding iPhone 5!

Yeah, hiking with me is always an adventure......

Here's the panorama shot I took:

I love my Galaxy S3 just as much as my IPad 2.

Equally ├╝ber sexy.

I could also use it to scan for Kool Aid and Xul Types ;-)

Douglas,
I have one question is the ridge closest to you looking down the valley a horse shoe ridge or did the panorama feature do that? It looks kind of of like a fish eye lens effect?
Thanks,
Terry

I run on a Nokia Lumina - it has a Photosynth app that does 360 pano's. I shoot most of my hiking photos now on my mobile honestly.
Funny thing is at home we run on all Macs but neither my husband nor I like the iphone. We might be apple fanboys at home....but ironically prefer a Windows driven phone ;-) I find it more elegant and the interface is smoother. Granted it doesn't have a ton of apps, I am totally fine with that though. Funny is - locally here in Washington State a couple Microsofties developed an app for Windows phones for Washington Trails Association - so you could take hiking info on the go. All the iphone freaks whined about it but so far no one has has stepped up to build an app in their spare time!!

Panorama feature did that for the most part.
