Nothing to do with guns but since you are here , can you please read the following paragraph and tell me what you think .
It is the start of a novel based around Kilburn a London suburb :

'In the beginning God created heaven and earth with,it would appear,Irish labour.
it took the Lord six days, and on the seventh he rested, during which the speculative builders put up Kilburn.
Kilburn High Street runs three miles, that's why it looks 'shagged out'.
A walk through Kilburn has left an indelible blank through my mind.
the British, it is said, are made up of four races, the best of these are the Derby and the Oaks"

I lived in London for about three and half years.

No not just the Irish.
God, the Bible, town planners, the English ,Scots and the Welsh (reference to the four races...)
All in just one paragraph.
(Indian, Pakistani,Nazis and many more are included later but maybe a bit too much for some here...)

I'll explain what this is all about...
That paragraph in bald is the start of a novel by Spike Milligan.
Called "The Loony,an Irish fantasy" it is based on an Irish laborer in London called Mick Looney.
Mick is convinced that he is the rightful heir to the Irish throne.
That name of course is meant to highlight the Irish stereotype and so is the rest of the novel.
It plays on stereotypes and racism.
It helps if you know that Spike (Terence) was born in India(from Irish parents), grew up there ,where his father was stationed serving in the British Army, then moved to Burma and later to the UK and Australia.
He became an Irish citizen aged 44(his parents were Irish) . That was his choice .
He could have remained British and should have been Australian.
Incidentally having pocked fun at God and the church all his writing life, he died as a Catholic and was buried with the Irish flag draped across his coffin.

Here is an example of the Irish wit he was fond of (and a true story...)

A mate of his flew into Dublin to watch the Irish rugby team try to match the Aussies (fat chance...)
So leaving the airport he wishes he had a piano because there is where he left his ticket.
Arriving at the stadium he spots a scalper.
He asks her for the price.
100 pounds (that was a few days work then...)
100 pounds ? for that I can have sex with the best looking girl in Dublin !!!
Without missing a beat she replies " yes you could but you would not get half an hour each way with a band playing at interval "
He bought the ticket.

Never mind the oil, give me the Irish...
