Looking for new shorts for my next marathon on 08/29/2012 23:51:48 MDT Print View

My favorite nike shorts has retired. There is some sticky substance coming from the waistband. Its time for new shorts. What I loved about this nike shorts was that it had mesh panel on the hips and under the crotch, plus no liner. They were super breathable. I really miss it. I cant find the same model which is a bummer.

I have been looking at few options:

wool
Icebreaker Mens Distance Short

ibex iMen's Balance Runner Short

single layer supplex*

single layer powerdry*

* does anyone know where I can find these?

Has anyone run long distance with merino shorts? How well do these work for swimming? I want one pair of shorts that can handle swimming as well as running.

Thanks for your help.

I can't speak for any of those, but I can say the Patagonia 7" Strider shorts are the ticket for me. Lightweight, fast drying, mesh down the side. Used them for everything from 5hr trail runs to warm weather packrafting. If you don't like the built-in brief, you could always remove it fairly easily.

They're also on sale right now: http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/mens-strider-shorts-7-inch-inseam?p=24645-1-598
