Seam sealing eVent and the likes on 08/27/2012 03:47:11 MDT Print View

trying to seam seal a bivi (its taped but some more protection at the foot cant hurt) and some gloves from MLD. the later are eVent and the RAB bivi is Pertex shield...
when i used silicone based sealant on the bivi in the past (diluted to olive oil viscosity) it ended up getting white ans flaking off after drying....

does the Sil based not work on these fabrics? what should I use?

Silicone based sealant on silnylon

McNett Seam Grip on everything else

But, I sometimes use silicone based on non silnylon. It doesn't turn white and flake off. It turns clear. It tends to peel off over time, especially in high abrasion areas.

If you've put silicone on and there's still residual, the McNett might not stick. Maybe clean it off real good with mineral spirits?

Did you use mineral spirits (paint thinner) to dilute?

Permatex Flowable Sealant comes pre-diluted and is supposed to be stronger.
