This concept is awesome and solves a huge amount of problems.
you could use shock cord for staps and hiking pant material
Problems Solved
1) no belt rub
2) no mid step pants adjustment
3) no pack rub
4) extra pockets on you chest between shoulders for camera ect
5) cord locks and adjustable shock cord to pull up pants and zip bottoms for stream crossings

My brother thought of this I thought what a great idea.

I could see if for shoulder and winter hiking.. seems hot for summer

I don't think it would be hot if you used a lightweight, quick drying material like the nylon materials often used in travel and trekking clothes. The thing for me is that I've never experienced any of the problems listed. But for someone having trouble keeping their pants hitched up (and suspenders didn't solve the issue or the rub in the waist area bothered them) it'd probably be helpful. Might have to make your own, tho.

I think the concept would go over big time in eastern Kentucky or Tennessee, but it would be more for formal wear.

I'm big into cycling and wear overalls every morning when I do my ride.

They're awesome. TONS of problems with slippage, cold spots, etc before overalls.

The ONE issue that I can think about with backpacking is that you want lose material to prevent mosquitos and sweat buildup.

I'd rather have coveralls. I'm not sure how hot it would be in warmer seasons though. It might also mean revealing a lot of skin to fill a cat hole unless the thing has a few extra zippers.
