Hi,

After realizing that the platypus soft bottle cannot be attached properly to the filter input (evernew bottles are perfect though), I still have not given up on attached my platypus bottle to the sawyer filter output.

To this end, I bought two aquasimple bottle caps (http://arrowheadequipment.webs.com/apps/webstore/products/show/1191146) and connected them with some food grade tubing and clamps. One cap makes a secure connection with the platypus bottle. The other cap screws down tightly on the filter output, however, there is a gap between the piece of the cap which attaches directly to the hose and the piece of the cap which screws down on the filter output. This gap causes leaks. I'm looking for a washer to take up the space between the two pieces. However, the size washer required appears to be non-standard (i.e., not available at Home Depot).

Has anyone solved this problem?

Rafi, can you post a picture of what you came up with? sounds like the fitting is bad or you don't have a good fit.
I have everything you have so I'll put the stuff together and see if I can figure out whats wrong.

Ok, now I get it. The Sawyer squeeze filter, where the cap goes on, is too short to allow a tight fit with the adapter you are using causing a leak.

You might be able to use these: Vortex Bottle Connector They are for pop bottles and they have to have a shorter connection like the "push-pull" cap that comes with the Sawyer, they sell for $1.49 each

Or maybe just trim off a MM or 2 of the bottom of the cap so that it will seat better- if it were me I'd try the connector above first.
You could try a specialty store of some kind that stocks odd size washers- Google is for the SF area, there should be at least one.

Elementary school science class to the rescue! The tornado tube, with a little modification (take about 1/4" of each end with a hack saw) fits perfectly to both the clean end of the sawyer squeeze filter and to a platypus bladder or squeeze bottle.



The tornado tube is the blue thing connecting the filter to the clean water bladder.

Sawyer makes these adapters for the squeeze model so you can attach it to a hose. This essentially turns it into the inline filter. I think the one that attaches to the output would accomplish what you're looking for.

I have pretty much given up on this quest, even after recommending it and instead switched over to using the Evernew water bags.

These Evernew bags weigh a smidgen more (~4 grams) but they have a much better connector top.

They mount perfectly onto the Sawyer Squeeze, onto every pop-top cap I have tried, and even onto the 'AquaSimple Bottle Cap' that you linked too - which I use to attach a drink tub from the Evernew bag.

The tops on all four bags are the same so good-to-go regardless of which you get.

But, most importantly, zero problems with leaks/drips when using the Evernew bags. Been hard for me to move away from the Plattys, but that non-standard top they use has just gotten to be too much of a pain.

I added an O ring to the aquasimple bottle cap and that worked quite well.

I tried the tornado tube in the past, but it leaked. Maybe I need to add a washer or cut off a portion of the tube end.

I may try the sawyer connector from REI.

As for the evernew bags, John, the issue remains as to how to connect the filter output to any bag--evernew or platypus.

McMaster-Carr has many more o-rings sizes available. So if you can get a measurement of what size you need, you could order from them. Alternatively, You can get o-ring glue (I think they usually just use super glue). Get an o-ring a little bigger than you need, slice off the extra, and re-glue it back together.

I tried the tornado tube again. It's OK for filtering, but really leaks for backflushing when there's greater water pressure.

As I understand it you have to cut the ends off the tornado tube for it to work properly.
