Mountain Hardwear has a new pack, the largest I'm aware of with a vest-like shoulder harness. Could be an interesting option for multi-day running, as well as scrambling and general fast and lightitude. Claimed weight of 12 oz.

I've been using the Thruway 50 all year, and am just about ready to finalize the review. It's a mixed bag, but MH is taking a more aggressive approach to pack design, for which I applaud them.

I like the look of this. Since spring I've been using my old gorilla without a belt and have found with the wide shoulder straps that it carries well with the weight dispersed more evenly against back/shoulders/chest. I'm defintely starting to buy into the ray-way no hipbelt philosophy--so much better to have free movement in the hips esp. when moving fast/runnning. I think we'll continue to see some interesting innovation in fast & light gear as alpinists become more like runners (euli) & runners like alpinists (anton). Exciting times.

I really like the strap design on this. I imagine that the two straps (one a sternum strap, the other I guess is a belly strap?) will provide significant stability without the need for a hip belt.

I'm going to have to file this away for some upcoming MYOG projects.
