Recent trip, near the trail head there was a zen looking lake at 5am, very photo worthy.
My buddy gets out of the truck to photograph, drops his iPhone, cracks the screen. Can't use the camera, can't use the phone. he is S.O.L. for the remainder of the weekend trip.
I intentionally keep my phone separate from my camera. When I drain my camera battery, my emergency phone is not affected.
There is something to be said for consolidation, and UL gram counting greed that creates a single point of failure and a realistic risk of bigger loss of functionality.
This is my emergency phone. not smart phone. it's old, outdated, plays music, take low resolution photos, sends TXT, but I only power it up for emergency calls. very thin, Smaller than a pack of cigs, and I've dropped it plenty of times.
