Jeff - how tall are you? I've been told 6' or 6'1" is about the max for using a Solomid, and I'm 6'2". Not sure if I'd fit, but I do like the design.

I believe Martin Rye is 6'2" and he swears by his SoloMid and custom OookWorks inner. The height of the pitch will also have an influence on how much space you have available.

I am 5'8'... so lots of room in the Solomid for me. The pad in the picture above is a full length pad. I think there is a picture on the MLD website of Ron Bell laying down in one.

Ron's website pictures do not accurately show him lying down in the shelter from a side view so one can see how close each end (foot and head) comes to the sloped walls with a given thickness sleeping pad. The self inflating pad he is on appears possibly deflated which matters. Sleeping bags also stick out from the foot end a distance.

Thanks all for the sizing insights. As much as I like the Solomid design I think I'd really be pushing it, height-wise. I'll have to pass.

I am 6'1" and fit well even in a long bag. The comment about not fitting if 6' or over is based on the size of the MLD inner net and not the SoloMid.

I own a Solomid and I'm 6'2" with a 77" neoair and a long bag. I was surprised at how spacious it was inside for a guy my size.

Is the bug netting removable? Or is it sewn in?

Question: You only get bug protection with the mesh if the solomid is completely closed up? Wouldn't that make it too hot and stuffy inside durng bug season?

Bug netting is sewn in. In the low pitch, the midpoints are raised a few inches off the ground, allowing for ventilation. You can see that in Jeff's second photo in particular. That can be improved further with a higher pitch. The bug net is 12" long which is sufficient for full coverage in a high pitch. Yes, the door needs to be closed, but that's what gives the SoloMid its structure and wind resistance. I own the cuben SoloMid and would not leave the door open overnight for fear of it blowing away here in Colorado.

The Perimeter bug Netting is not removable. It is sewn in. There is bug netting in the top vent that can be removed.
